Archiving Files

As mentioned above, the CIIR group itself is capable of archiving to tape files that an owner wants to save but not keep around on disk, using up space. Send mail to irsystem@cs.umass.edu and a tape will be made of the files you specify. A listing of the files archived will be saved for review. Restoration of files archived this way may also be accomplished by sending email to the same address.

Furthermore, CSCF (Computer Science Computing Facility) will also archive or restore files that you request. One should check there incremental backup schedule of the disk you are interested in (it must be a user or data disk) to see if the archive will occur soon. If not, you can ask them to make the backup ahead of schedule and they will generally comply. Send email to backup@cs.umass.edu for backup or restore requests.
