CMPSCI 646 is a graduate-level class in information retrieval offered at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

Announcements:

  • Nov 5.  Graded H2's were either handed back or put in your mailbox (only for those that were handed in by class on the 3rd).  The solution set is now available here.  Mid-term exam is on Tuesday.
  • Nov 2.  H2 will be accepted without penalty until Thursday.  We will try hard to have graded material back for H2 for those assignments handed in on time.  (This goal is slightly complicated by some travel.)
  • Nov 2.  Minor clarification for H2 posted in "hw/prog" tab.
  • Oct 30.  Sample midterms and solutions are now available in the "exams" tab.
  • Oct 29.  H2 finally on-line; it is due November 3rd before class.
  • Oct 20.  H1 handed back.  Midterm is being rescheduled to be a week or so later; please stay tuned.  You should be thinking about your project (see "project" tab above).
  • Sep 30.  H1 has been posted, due October 8th.  Also, don't forget that P1 is due today.
  • Sep 28.  Some updates to P1 data issues on that page....
  • Sep 27.  P1 updated with sample solution as well as small sample files for the two larger corpora, for who who cannot access the larger files at the moment.
  • Sep 25.  Information about accessing the larger P1 collections is now on-line.  Also, student who did not sign a data agreement should sign the one in their mailbox and return it.
  • Sep 23.  Programming assignment P1 is now posted.  It is due the evening of September 30th.
  • Sep 14.  Copies of both texts are available in the Textbook Annex.  Also, the class enrollment cap has been raised, so once that takes effect (not yet, alas), registrations will be possible again for those who do not need an override.
  • Sep 13.  Class is technically over-enrolled at the moment, though there may still be room if you're interested.  Contact the professor if so.  Substantial web page updates finally in place to align pages with discussion of class on Thursday.
  • Sep 7. Class does not meet on Tuesday, September 8th. The first class will be on Thursday the 10th in room 140 of the CS building.
