Currently we are in the process of negotiating with Dell an infrastructure upgrade which includes servers and storage.

The current proposal from dell is 28 compute nodes which consist of Dual Xeons with 4GB of memory, 4 I/O nodes for PVFS (Parallel File System) which consists of dual Xeons and storage system know as a SAN (Storage Area Network).

The SAN has two storage controllers with 2 fiber channel connections each for a total of 4 fiber connections. Each fiber connection will be connect to a I/O node, in tern the I/O nodes will serve up the file system through 1Gb Ethernet switch to each of the compute nodes. It is our hope the files system and SAN will be equal or faster than the storage we currently have in the lab.

TIme is tight on this,Dell is would like to see a purchase order for the equipment by July 27th.

I enclosed a basic sketch of the infrastructure for those who need to visualize it.
