On the CIIR’s 34th anniversary, Project Naget is being unveiled to bring the Center’s research to a new generation of real-world AI search technology.

Naget (naget.com) is a trusted information layer for agents that provides search results in a cited table that includes verifiable sources behind each cell.  With its state-of-the art retrieval quality and completeness, Naget can be used to search the Web, the user’s own data, or agents that others have built to find every match to one’s question.

This is a major technology-transfer effort of the CIIR, developed in collaboration with the AIX Initiative at UMass Amherst, a university initiative focused on translating advances in artificial intelligence into real-world systems and applications.

Naget builds on decades of research in information retrieval, machine learning, and intelligent information access, including state-of-the-art and patented technologies developed by the CIIR’s team.

Project Naget is led by CIIR and AIX members Chris Samarinas and Hamed Zamani. Together, the team brings 10+ years of experience in information retrieval, search systems, machine learning, and AI. Naget represents the next chapter of a research tradition that began at the CIIR in 1992: advancing how the world finds, understands, and uses information.

“With Naget, you get all the useful information, none of the clutter, and all verifiable in one unified information layer,” said Hamed Zamani, CIIR Associate Director and Manning College of Information and Computer Sciences Associate Professor.
