On Jan. 4, 1995, then-Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich unveils new U.S. Library of Congress “Thomas” System developed by the CIIR that he commissioned to search full text of the bills from Congress and pending legislation. Thomas, named after President Thomas Jefferson, went online on Jan. 5, 2015 attracting 94,911 queries over the next three months.
